GOLFING GEM BEING DISCOVERED IN CARRINGTON

September 13, 2011 - By: Ryan Cunningham (NewsDakota.com)

VALLEY CITY (NewsDakota.com)–In one of North Dakota’s small towns, known as the “Central City”, a golfing gem is being uncovered. The excavation of that gem has been rapid the past two seasons.

There’s nothing small-town about Carrington’s Crossroads Golf Course, and the state’s golf community has noticed. The 18-hole, par 72, 6,855 yard course has drawn the attention of golfers that spend almost all of their time at the biggest names in golf courses the state has to offer.

In 2011 alone, the course has hosted a full Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) boys meet, been named as a possible neutral site for future EDC regional meets, and hosted the Class “A” East-West crossover that involved 15 of the state’s 19 Class “A” teams. More...

FishingBuddy.Com  Just like the lake, the Devils Lake Chamber Walleye Tournament continues to grow. It grows in popularity every year. It grows in teams, payouts, walleyes caught and fun. First prize money, $5,000, is guaranteed. All funds raised go into the payout and conservation projects around the lake. Entry fee to participate in the tournament is $250 per team.

“This tournament has created a special bond among the anglers and the lake,” said Rich Brueckner, Chamber executive director and part of the 1995 winning team, “After so many years, the teams look forward to the third weekend in June for some friendly competition.” Dates this year are Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23.  More...

Build It and They Will Come

Foster County Independent

May 7, 2012

Editorial by Allen V. Stock

There's a phrase that comes out often, I think it was from a movie long ago: "Build it and they will come."

That phrase came to me the other day as I remembered back when plans were first prepared for the CrossRoads Golf Club now located north of the city. I sat on that original committee and following meeting after meeting and year after year, the new 18-hole course was developed.

And, they have come to play the course. From all over the state, many other states and even foreign countries, golfers have played the excellent facility located to the north. Many, if not all, have commented on the excellent layout and just how supreme are the fairways and greens.

Lots of TLC and hard work each year by the grounds keepers and manager have made this one of the finest in the state of North Dakota.  More...
