Flu Season Is Definitely Here!

(Please read the following article taken from the Foster County Independent.)

Hospital, Clinic Set Flu Season Rules

by Leasa A. Lura

October 19, 2009:  Carrington Health Center has important information for the public during this flu season.

CHC Public Information Officer Brenda Rask said that they are restricting visitors at CHC to immediate family only and no one under 18 years of age will be allowed to visit patients.

She also said that everyone entering the clinic will be required to wear a mask and people with scheduled appointments should leave family members at home.

"We will also be doing phone triage.  We will be treating people over the phone who have flu like symptoms.  People should just stay at home and call in if they have any flu like symptoms.

"Since we have three confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus and 20 pending cases, we have stopped testing patients and are just providing treatment.

"We just want people to stay at home if they are feeling sick and keep kids home if they are feeling sick This is the best way to combat this virus and prevent the spread of it to others."

THANK YOU TO BLOOD DONORS & HELPERS!

August 17-18, 2009

Carrington Health Center

Thank you to everyone who donated or attempted to donate blood at the Carrington Health Center blood drive in August. Thank you to CHC dietary for the food, to CHC maintenance for their assistance and to all who provided food and helped with registration.

Through your efforts 71 successful donations were received - eight of which were double red cell donations.

More than 300 units of blood are needed each day to meet the patients' needs in the 74 hospitals served by United Blood Services of North Dakota.

Kyle Smith,  local physical therapist, makes giving blood look easy.

Auxiliary volunteers provide information and keep track of donors.

FAITH in ACTION

For someone with long-term health needs, something as simple as changing a light bulb can mean the difference between maintaining or losing independence.  Thankfully, Faith in action volunteers in Carrington can help bring light back into the lives of those with long-term health needs.

Our program is a new part of Carrington Health Center that connects volunteers to neighbors in need.  We bring together volunteers of many faiths to help people in our community with long-term health needs or disabilities maintain their independence for as long as possible by providing non-medical assistance with daily activities.

Volunteer activities include shopping for groceries, providing rides to medical appointments, cooking meals, doing light housework, running errands and providing companionship through visits or phoning.  Volunteers also may provide respite care and relief for family caregivers.

The Faith in Action program is beginning here in Carrington and needs your time and talents.  Just a few hours a month can make the world of difference.

Become the Hands and Feet of Jesus; put your Faith in Action!  For more information, contact Faith in Action of Carrington Health Center coordinator: Jan Bakke at 652-7218.
