Foster County Commissioners Vote To Not Allow Carrington Residents on Planning and Zoning Board. Is That Legal?

"I understand that two of the commissioners' positions will be up for a vote in November: Mr. Carr and Mr. Hart. What I don't understand is why anyone who lives in Carrington would vote for any of the present commissioners. They made it very clear by a unanimous vote that no one in Carrington could serve on the Foster County Planning and Zoning Commission. The decisions that the commission make directly affect Carrington, the major population city of the county. So, I ask again: why don't they want anyone from Carrington to be on the commission, [and why would anyone from Carrington vote for them]?"  More...

Flooding Nashville (My Hometown)

Smoke on the Mountain!
July 1 - August 15
The Opera House
818 Central Avenue
New Rockford

The year is 1938. It's Saturday night in Mount Pleasant, NC, and the Reverend Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders Family Singers to provide an upliftin' evening of singin' and witnessin'. The audience is invited to pull up a pew and join in the rollicking good time. More than two dozen songs, many of them vintage pop hymns, and hilarious stories from the more or less devout Sanders, provide a richly entertaining evening that has audiences clapping, singing, laughing and cheering. Order tickets online or call the box office for assistance: (701) 947-2174.

Guys & Dolls
July 7 - August 1
Little Theater - Fort Totten

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on July 7-8, July 10, July 14-15, July 17, July 21-22, July 24, July 28-29 and July 31. Matinee performances are at 2 p.m. on July 11, 18 and 25 and on Aug. 1. The great musical score includes "Luck Be a Lady," "Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat," "I've Never Been In Love Before," and "Adelaide's Lament."  Tickets are available at the Liquid Bean in Devils Lake or by calling the box office at 662-8888.

Carrington Calendar Contest!

That's right!  Here's your chance to have one of your Carrington photos in a 2011 Carrington Calendar.  Sounds like a great idea from the Chamber of Commerce!  Just adhere to the following rules:

1.  The photo must be taken in the Carrington (Foster County) area.

2.  It must depict something related to Carrington.

3.  It must be at least 300 dpi quality and can be submitted electronically.

If you have questions, please contact Laurie Dietz at the Chamber office by phone (652-2524) or e-mail.

Here's an example of a photo that might go on a Carrington calendar: one of my own favorite Carrington pictures.  Although, I think a more likely picture to be chosen would be one where you show children with Santa on a hayride at the Putnam House.  YOU just might have that perfect December picture in your own collection!
